About

I’m a science journalist based in Bristol, UK, and a member of the Association of British Science Writers.

I’m author of The Elephant in the Room: How to Stop Making Ourselves and Other Animals Sick, out with Icon Books on April 10th and the University of Chicago Press on May 15th. “This is an entertaining read as much as it is enlightening. We are in the midst of the ‘pandemicene,’ and it’s imperative that we all understand how our health as humans is inextricably linked to the health of other animals and the environment…there is hope to be found in the pages of this wonderful book.” – Neil Vora, Conservation International.

I’m also co-author of Furry Logic: the Physics of Animal Life for Bloomsbury Sigma with Matin Durrani. This “fun, informative chronicle of how myriad animals take advantage of the laws of physics” (thanks, Sid Perkins) is out in paperback in both the UK and US.

I used to write about environmental science for IOP Publishing. I’ve also written for the BBC News website, The Guardian, NewScientist, PhysicsWorld magazine, BBC Focus magazine, BBC Wildlife magazine, Physics Review, How it Works magazine and The Big Issue. Find out more about my writing.
